• Model work — classical ML, deep learning, fine-tuning, or working with LLMs (prompt engineering, RAG, evaluation)

• Engineering & deployment — Python (or R, C++, JS/TS), MLOps, cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure), API integration with model providers

• Data — pipelines, cleaning, feature engineering, or visualization and reporting
• Specializations — NLP, computer vision, speech, multimodal, or applied research from papers to prototypes
• Foundations — math, statistics, and optimization, useful but not gatekeeping
• Applied judgment — domain experience in any industry, responsible/ethical AI practices, and the ability to explain tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders
